Recently while searching the world wide web i came across a shower head, but this wasn't like your everyday shower head. This shower head was modernized with some Eco-friendly technology. The shower head is named Uji and will change from green to red, when it turns red it is time to get out. This shower head was made to help encourage shorter showers by cutting shower time by 12 percent. The Uji gives a person seven minutes to shower, which is all you really need. With a $50 price tag this shower head basically pays for itself, saving you about 85/year installed. Mark your calendar because by early 2014 the Uji will be on market and I encourage you to purchase one.

Photo challenge
While visiting Florida for summer vacation I stayed in a Disney resort. This resort contained two man made water fountains that look like the images below. i recently found out that these fountains contain fish that breathe the oxygen from the pipes in the fountain.

Tuna, snapper, jellyfish, or shark
Oceana a non-governmental organization has been using their free time wisely. They used the past few years to do undercover work on fish sold at grocery stores, restaurants and sushi venues. Oceana wanted to make sure that the "Tuna" sold at certain places was actually Tuna. well if your thinking "Of course its Tuna why would they lie to us" than you will surely be surprised by the results. Out of 1200 fish samples collected by Oceana 33% were mislabeled purposely. I hope your not in the mood for sushi at that new sushi place because 74% of the fish sold at sushi venues mislabeled their fish. Maybe your not in the mood for sushi anymore, but you have this weird craving for Tuna. Well... Oceana also discovered that 59% of fish called "tuna" is not tuna. If your still brave enough to eat this than by all means go ahead but remember Oceana warned you.

Febreze air effects
An item that not only my house contains but many houses and buildings do is air freshener. the specific type my house has right now is Febreze Air Effects (Hawaiian Aloha). This product contains the following ingredients: odor eliminator, water, fragrance, non-flammable natural propellant, quality control ingredients. you may have noticed that I didn't mention either CFC's or any phosphates, well that's because their aren't any. Those ingredients may make your house smell cleaner but they leave the environment dirtier. So next time your out shopping for air fresheners stay far away from CFC's and phosphates. I personally recommend that you buy Febreze Air Effects (Hawaiian aloha) it smells really good.
Household Items That Impact the Environment
I have multiple things in my house that could impact the environment but I'm only going to list the top 5
1) My family buys a 24 pack of water bottles about twice a week. Which isn't good considering that we are wasting necessary resources. I believe we can fix this problem in my house by buying reusable Eco-friendly water bottles
2) Because of the number of people in my house dirty clothing piles up quickly which causes my house to wash clothing multiple times during the week. washing clothes that often wastes lots of water causing droughts. An easy way to fix this problem would be by scheduling a day out of the week to wash clothing and only wash clothes that day.
3) I recently noticed that my family including me runs the water while brushing their teeth, even when it is not necessary to run the water. Water is a valuable resource that should not be wasted by running the water when it is not needed. This problem out of the five listed has to be the easiest to fix, the only thing i have to do is turn the knob and the water will turn off.
4) Another issue in my house is lights. The lights in my house are basically on 24/7. As a mater of fact the lights are on while I'm typing this. Lights don't need to be on all the time because its not only wasting energy but it also causes your electric bill to be really high. Imagine the world being in complete darkness, doesn't sound so good does it ? Well its sure to happen if you don't turn the lights off when their not needed.
5) The last thing that i think should be added to this post has to deal with outlets. I get that eventually your going to have to charge your phone, but is it really necessary to have your phone charger plugged into the outlet when it isn't plugged up to your phone. I didn't think so. The energy your wasting on charging an unplugged phone could be used on important things like charging a plugged phone. A quick fix to this problem is to not only unplug the charger from your phone but to also unplug the charger from the wall as soon as it hits 100%

Hi, my name is Niamaka pope. I'm sixteen and attend Westlake high school. I was born in Raleigh, North Carolina. I'm the oldest of three siblings (two girls and one boy). After high school i plan to move to California and attend USC.
The environmental crisis that influenced my concern with the natural world and environmental education was the sinkhole in Florida. i was influenced by this because it seemed that a lot of these things have started happening in Florida. Also this influenced me because I visit Florida every summer and that could have been me trapped in a sink hole. after hearing about the sinkhole I wanted to know how this could happen. it turned out that Florida used to be all swamp water, but then the government took the water from the swamps and built land on top this land eventually was used to build building and houses over. we re now starting to see the effect of building things on this land.
This deals with me personally because I like visiting Florida over the summer and if things keep going as they are their may not be anything left of Florida to visit.
